Mendoza is located 1037 km west of Buenos Aires, close to the Chilean border and the Andes mountain range. This city is made up of two parts, the old and the new. Only one colonial church, reminder of the old spectacular architecture, remains intact after the major earthquake in 1861. The "Barrio de las Ruinas" represents the remnants of what Mendoza used to be like. Mendoza is the exit and entry point for those interested in the highest mountain peak in South America, Aconcagua.
