| Denmark - Hillerod Vacations |
| Only 30 km northwest of Copenhagen, lies Hillerod - one of the most important towns in the Scandinavian history. The main tourist attraction is Frederiksborg Castle, which for a long time was the seat of the Danish kings. Started in 1560 by King Frederick II, the palace became the royal residence of King Christian IV. Nowadays, the castle is open to the public and houses the Frederiksborg Museum/The Museum of National History. It is surrounded by a splendid baroque garden. Also well worth a visit is the Town Museum ("Bymuseet") hosting a permanent exhibition regarding the history of Hillerod. The ruins of Aebelhold monastery, dating from 1175, appertain to the largest monastery in the northern countries that belonged to the Roman Catholic monastic order, The Augustinians. The site also contains a museum showing its history. |
