| Located on the coast of the Baltic Sea, the Gulf of Finland, at the estuary of Kymi River, Kotka is the second biggest export port in Finland. The splendid maritime scenery surrounding the city offers opportunities for various outdoor activities, including sailing, shooting the rapids, fishing, and nature excursions and archipelago trips. You can admire excellent views of the city and the surroundings from the top of the former Haukkavuori water tower. The river Kymijoki, which runs through the city, has some challenging rapids just outside the city. This is also the place where one can visit the Langinkoski lodge, a former fishing lodge of Tsar Alexander III. Don't miss the museum Icebreaker Tarmo - the oldest icebreaker in the world dating from 1907. |
