Debrecen - Airport City Former capital of the country, Debrecen is Hungary's second city. It is surnamed "The Calvinist Rome," because the inhabitants converted to the new faith in the 16th century, and the town became the centre of Calvinism. The symbolic pride of Debrecen is the Reformed Great Church, a reminder of several important events of Hungarian history. Another sight is the Town Hall - one of the finest examples of Classical architecture in Hungary. The Great Park, to the north of the city centre, is a favorite place for relaxation and enjoyment, offering a zoo, botanical garden, and thermal baths where forty different types of high-quality treatment based on the medicinal properties of the thermal waters are available. | Book this City | Szeged Located at the confluence of the rivers Maros and Tisza, Szeged is a charming university city. Surnamed "the city of sunshine" with over 2100 hours of sunshine each year, it has a lovely botanic garden and the open air museum (Opusztaszer) 10 kilometers north of the town is a must see for tourists. The most famous landmarks of Szeged are the Dom and the Synagogue - one of the most beautiful in Europe. The Reök Palace is a particularly fine example of "art nouveau" architecture. Together with Pécs, Szeged will be the European Capital of Culture in 2010. | Book this City |
