The Monasteries Route | 7 Nights (min) Price It | | The three enclaves of Soria, Olite and Sos del Rey Católico have not been chosen at random. We discover that Sos and Veruela (where a Parador is soon to be opened) were, within the Kingdom of Aragón, protecting its frontiers with Navarre, just as Olite was built by the Navarrese as a fortress to keep the Aragonese at bay. Meanwhile, Soria was the ancient frontier territory separating Aragón and the Crown of Castile, to which it belonged. This plethora of fortified outposts bestows special characteristics upon these monasteries, whose purpose was that of both safeguarding and furthering the culture of each kingdom. This route immerses the traveler in the medieval art that sprung from the fertile wine-producing valleys. (Aragon Vacations) |

| Aragon Cities |
Zaragoza Zaragoza is the provincial capital of Aragon, once a kingdom it its own right. A prosperous city, Zaragoza was founded 2,000 years ago and like may other cities in Spain bears the marks of Roman, Goth, and Arabic civilizations. The city has not one, but two cathedrals, and it used to be a major pilgrimage center, as the legend states that St James, the protector saint of Spain, had a vision of Virgin Mary here. It is one of the greatest centers of the Marian cult in Spain. A monumental city of wide avenues and arcades, Zaragoza is also a lively student center. | Book this City |
