 | The Rueda and Toro Wine Route
The Douro River waters the heart of the wine growing regions of Rueda and Toro, the objective of this route is to explore two adjoining regions each with its own distinct personality. Rueda is made up of 72 villages spread across the provinces of Valladolid, Segovia and Avila. For this reason, the Parador de Tordesillas is the ideal point from which to visit some of its 39 wineries, which for the last 25 years have been producing a series of excellent white wines based on the Verdejo variety of grape. Not far away, located between Rueda and Los Arribes, is the officially certified winegrowing area of Toro. Situated close to the parador of Zamora and Parador of Salamanca - ideal places to eat and spend the night-, its 43 wineries have, for the past seven years, been making the most of the Toro variety grape to produce some magnificent red wines, and of the Garnacha, Verdejo and Malvasía varieties to produce white and rosé wines.  | Ribera de Duero Wine Route
Spending 4 nights at the Paradores de Soria, Lerma and Tordesillas means an inevitable incursion into one of the most renowned winegrowing regions of Castilla- León, namely Ribera del Duero. It runs for around one hundred kilometers following the course of the upper reaches of the Douro River, the watercourse responsible for giving the clay soils that sweep away from its banks their unique character. The vines of this region receive an average of 500 liters of rainwater and 2,500 hours of sun per year and there are 11,653 hectares of land under cultivation. The Tinta del País variety of grape gives these wines their typical characteristics. This strong strain of grape is blended with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha and Albillo varieties and over the past two decades these have combined to produce some of the highest quality wines on the market. Vineyards and market gardens! This route effortlessly conquers the palate. It gently runs through Lower Rioja, crosses Navarre and reaches its greatest splendor in Upper Rioja. The main aim of this route is to enjoy enotourism, a pleasure that was already discovered in these lands by the Phoenicians and the Romans. The Rioja denomination of origin is one of the oldest in Spain: it dates from the 1970s and its vineyards occupy 53,000 hectares (including Rioja Alavesa). Lower Rioja is an absolute delight, with towns and villages like Calahorra, Arnedo or Alfaro. From here, you take refuge in the beautiful Olite and with this touch of Navarre on the retina; the route enters Upper La Rioja, with its capital: Haro. From this point, close to Ebro River, you set off towards Logroño. The finest wineries and the monastic origins of the Spanish language in Suso and Yuso come together to Santo Domingo de la Calzada.
