| Founded in 1582, Harnosand is the oldest town in the administrative district of Vasternorrland. It is a jewel on the east coast of Sweden, close to the mountains and countryside. It is the best base for exploring Angermanland, the area of Sweden that most resembles Norway, with its coastlines and long fjords stretching inland, and also the High Coast or Hoga Kusten. Harnosand is built on islands connected by bridges and its setting is one of the most scenic in Sweden. The city also has an extensive selection of outdoor activities both in summer and wintertime. Wintertime offers possibilities for skiing (cross country and downhill), ice skating, etc. Summertime activities include climbing, kayaking, trekking, etc. The town also features a summertime beach Smitingen, which occasionally gets some surfable waves. |
