Schaffhausen Schaffhausen is a small city located in the north-east of Switzerland, built on terraces along the steep bank of the Rhine. Closed to the German border, the old city was accidentally bombed in the World War II, but didn't suffer much loss. The medieval spirit is well-preserved, reflected in the romantic fountains and old buildings, with brown roofs and Renaissance decorations. The main attraction of Schaffhausen is the Europe's largest waterfall (Rheinfall), which offers a splendid sight.
St Gallen This ancient town was founded by the Irish monk Gallus in 612 in the foothills of the Alps and it is, at 2200 ft above sea level, the highest European city of such size.
