Eastern Island, also known as Rapa Nui, is the most isolated island on earth. It remains an enigma how the island's descendants could design and sculpt hundreds of colossal Moai head sculptures from hard volcanic tuff, transport them to great distances, and erect them on great stone platforms (Ahu). Three volcanoes gave rise to this island, creating dramatic landscapes. Ancient inhabitants had an organized society, a written language, wonderful building techniques, and a complex religion.

| ESSENCE OF THE AREA |
| Easter Island (Isla de Pascua in Spanish), also known as Rapa Nui or Te-Pito-Henúa (meaning navel of the world in Polynesian), is one of the most attractive and mysterious places on earth. The most isolated island in the world. Easter has a wealth of beauty both man-made and natural it is an enigma about how their descendants could design and sculpt hundreds of colossal moais from hard volcanic tuff, transport these tall and heavy statues great distances from quarry to coast and erect them on great stone ahu (platforms). The Easter Islands ruins are still very accessible. So far there are no fences or signs telling you to stay out or watch where you walk. Perhaps this is because it seems everywhere you walk is an archeological site! One big open-air museum!
