General Facility Description

Set high on a ridge facing Costa Rica`s most active and spectacular volcano, the Arenal Observatory Lodge offers the adventurous traveler a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The Lodge was originally built in 1987 as a research station for scientists of the Smithsonian Institute. It is the only lodge within Arenal National Park and is protected from danger by a deep gorge of the Agua Caliente River. Meals are served at the large main dining room, which features walls of windows opening onto views of the volcano and Lake Arenal. Chefs prepare a variety of continental and Costa Rican dishes, with an emphasis on fresh, local fruits and vegetables, as well as locally raised beef and poultry, and fish from Lake Arenal. It also has a comfortable bar open from 10:00am to midnight everyday. This is a wonderful spot to gather with other guests, an excellent place to be for any volcanic eruptions.

Please take into consideration that Arenal Observatory Lodge Hotel will be remodeling its pool from May 4th to June 5th, 2007, during this time it will be out of service for its guests.
