General Facility Description
Hacienda Pinsaquí is ideally situated at the
base of Imbabura Volcano, just north of the world-famous Otavalo market, and
only an hour-and-a-half from Quito, Ecuador's charming capital.
Constructed in 1790, Hacienda Pinsaquí was originally a colonial textile
enterprise, employing over one thousand weavers and spinners. Many of Pinsaquí?s
fabrics were exported to the United States in the late 1800s where they first
received international recognition. To this day, the Hacienda retains the character
and authenticity of its earlier incarnation, making for a unique travel experience.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated with white stone walls, deep blue curtains,
historic art and huge windows giving onto the captivating landscape beyond.
The restaurant, which caters to both vegetarians and meat-eaters alike, offers
three meals a day, ranging from light meals such as soups and sandwiches, to
more elegant dishes including fish, meat, and pastas. Try the typical Ecuadorian
soups, the fresh fish and rich desserts.
In the cavern bar, enjoy the cosy atmosphere of the open, crackling fire and
the collections of family regalia, and admire the historic equestrian equipment,
from worn leather saddles to dusty horse show medals - this room is redolent
with history. Sip one of the cellar?s many fine wines, or enjoy "canelazo"
by the fire, whilst browsing the photos, prizes and plaques which all attest
to the tradition of the hacienda.
If you are looking to delve in to your favourite novel, or simply want to relax
and enjoy the solace of the surroundings, the hacienda is ideal. There are numerous
fireplaces by which you can read a book or chat with friends, all of them tranquil
and welcoming. Take time to walk around the grounds, following the carefully
marked paths into hidden courtyards, or to the small pond, as you enjoy the
intense scent of flowers that lingers in the air. Around 6 p.m., head down the
walking trail behind the hacienda to catch a glimpse of the spectacular sunset
peeking out from the clouds surrounding Imbabura Volcano.
This unique hacienda makes an ideal base. Whether you are looking for outdoor
pursuits, relaxation, antiques, handicrafts, and whether you are single, a couple
or a family, you are guaranteed that a few days here will make your stay in
Ecuador unforgettable.
