The Galapagos are located six hundred miles west of the Ecuadorian coastline. Its wonders span from the most varied and incredible geological formations: lava flows, blowholes, spatter cones, lava tunnels, to beaches of olive, black, or white sand and the most diverse species of animal and plant life. The most surprising sight for visitors however, is perhaps the varied species of animals, which inspired Charles Darwin on his visit in 1835.

The most important Ecuador's port, this city is a good departure point or gateway for the Galapagos. The most populous and active city in Ecuador, Guayaquil is Ecuador's commercial center. Shopping bargains abound. Rich and varied seafood is a culinary specialty. Las Penas neighborhood preserves the colonial period at its best. Guayaquil is the natural gateway to beautiful beaches and nautical sports, and offers great entertainment with its many restaurants, nightclubs, and casinos.

Galapagos
The Galapagos Islands form one of the most famous national parks of the world due to its unique characteristics. The Galapagos Islands are made up of 13 main islands, 6 smaller islands and 41 islets. Created by strong eruptions, each of them is just the peak of an invisible gigantic volcano of 3,000m, deep below the ocean, giving the Islands a moon-like appearance.

The main attraction nevertheless, is the presence of many different endemic species of flora and fauna, making it the perfect destination for nature-loving travelers. These characteristics have given it the name of 'Paradise of evolution' (Charles Darwin) and 'The last wildlife sanctuary' (Jacques Cousteau).

In the Galapagos Islands animals have not learned to fear man, it is amazing the way you can approach them and be considered another inhabitant of their paradise. Symbolic of the archipelago are the tortoises; there are 11 subspecies of the giant tortoise, land-and marine iguanas, penguins and 13 species of finches, famous birds of Darwin?s studies for his theory of evolution. Different species of cacti, pamper and mangroves in four different colors are also endemic.
