Jujuy contains links to the Inca Empire as well as remnants of the colonial period. While its past is rather troubled by numerous wars, there are plenty vestiges left to see. Most visitors are interested in visiting the province of Jujuy for the remnants of aboriginal culture and for its Spanish heritage visible everywhere. San Salvador de Jujuy is the main city of this province and it can be used as a base for local exploration.

EATING AND DRINKING
Typical meals are basically prepared with meat as beef, lamb, goat, pork and chicken; also with corn, beans, eggs and seasoned with spices as chili, cumin, paprika. Therefore, we can taste many good dishes as locros, tamales (dried-corn-pie), humitas (green-corn-pie), quesillos, huaschalocro, guatia, empanadas (meat pies), frangollo, chanfaina, anchi, pollo (chicken) al barro, mazamorra, mondongo casserole with boiled white corn, chupi cocoa. Desserts are generally prepared with delicious fruits from the area, honey and milk; and for lovers of sweets we suggest the jams made of peaches, cayotes (gourd), figs, and the delightful sugar-cane syrup or sweets made with this syrup. We can also mention curdly sweet milk, pasta real (king cake), patay and the manufacture of cheeses by expert artisans. Internationally known is the production of price-winning wines like the Torrontes, one of the most famous in the world.

During the 15 hours of the total journey, this train offers a buffet-car, a medical ward, audio sound, video, folk groups and bilingual touristic guides.Due to its magnificent landscape and to the translucent clarity of the intense blue of the sky, over the years "Train to the Clouds" has become one of the most important railroads built the first half of this century and one of the most important touristic attractions in Argentina.

Jesuistic Mission of San Jose de Lules:
San Jose de Lules Ruins, declared National Historic Monument are witness of the time corresponding to the Spanish conquest. Its building belonged to the Jesus Company, where the Jesuit fathers performed, beside religious activities others of educational and work character, mainly with the Lules indians. The most trascendent work in this last aspect was the creation of the Tucuman sugar industry. Also iron works, sawmills, carpentry and even indigeneous sculpture were made in this Mission. Finally that historic mission was suspended in 1777 when the Jesuits were expelled from the American continent.
