The Explorama Lodge, established in 1964, is located 50 miles down the Amazon River, deep in primary rainforest. Romantic kerosene torches and lamps illuminate palm-thatched houses with 10-17 private sleeping rooms. The showers and toilet facilities adjoin each house. Covered connecting walkways lead to the Tahuampa Bar, the Dining Room, the Sun Porch and two Hammock Houses. The guides are all local people, raised in the Peruvian Rainforest, with an extensive and sensitive knowledge of ecology and culture of the Amazon. Meals are served buffet style in the Palm-Thatched Dining Room and feature local and international dishes cooked in a simple and appetizing way.

The lodge offers large palm-thatched buildings with individual rooms. There are separate bathroom and shower facilities connected by covered walkways and lighting is by kerosene lanterns.
