Corn Islands are located in the Caribbean Sea, 52 miles from the port city of Bluefields. Both the Little and the Big Corn Islands have almost 16,400 feet of white sand, totally deserted beaches, and crystal turquoise waters, an ideal destination for swimming, snorkeling or diving. In addition, and just 17.5 miles from the Corn Islands are situated the Pearl Keys, an unspoiled paradise not to be missed!

ESSENCE OF THE AREA
Fly from Managua to this remote paradise with very little creature comforts, not for the faint of heart, Corn Island is10 square kilometers of forested hills, mangrove swamps, and stretches of forested hills, mangrove swamps, and stretches of white coral beaches, great snorkeling.

RECOMMENDED SIGHTSEEING & ACTIVITIES
Bluefields
This capital of the "South Atlantic Autonomous Region" is located on the Caribbean shores of Nicaragua, 178 miles (315 km) from Managua. One can get here by air, (1 hour) or by land, driving 6 hours to El Rama, and from there by river boats cruising the Escondido river for 3 more hours.

Bluefields is a typical Caribbean town with a mixed culture and island flavor. Nature presence is strong all around this town with wide rivers and small jungle canals. Still undiscovered by massive tourism, it allows the discretionary ecotourism traveller an opportunity to see very different cultures like Misquitos, Jamaican descendants, original Sumus and Ramas Indian tribes in their natural habitat.

Highlights:
"The jungle canal from Bluefields to Pearl Lagoon". 2 hours ride with a fast outboard engine panga (local boat) for 6 people (average capacity).
"The Pearl Keys" out in the Caribbean ocean (one full day). 30 minutes from Pearl Lagoon. Fishing and snorkeling. These beautiful and unspoiled islands are the perfect place for snorkeling.

Corn Island
Practically unexplored, its clear waters are ideal for fishing and diving. About a mile southeast of Corn Island divers can explore the wreck of a Spanish galleon, which lies in 72 feet of clear water. This area was a favorite haunt of pirates who roamed the Caribbean. It is thought that many other ancient wrecks - some most certainly still containing their rich cargo - lie in the waters off the Corn Islands!
There are frequent flights (small planes) arriving from Managua. Tourism is just starting even though the beauty of the sea and white sand beaches is spectacular. Services still are influenced by the local relaxed way.
Highlights:
Snorkle around the islands; beautiful coral formations.Coral reefs just minutes off shore surrounding the island. 10 to 12 feet deep, with visibility 80 to 100 meters. Beautiful unspoiled beaches, some of them totally deserted with white sand and turquoise waters. Truly an undiscovered paradise not to be missed.
MUST SEE
Little Corn Island is where the best diving is, you have to ride the 30 kilometers in open ocean from Corn Island to Little Corn Island, is a delicate paradise a mere 3 square kilometers of deserted island with no roads, surrounded on three sides by nine kilometers of thriving coral reef schooling with an abundance of wildlife.
