Ambergris Caye is the largest of Belize's nearly 200 offshore cayes . Commuter planes (15- minute ride) and water taxis (1-hour ride) link it to Belize City. The airstrip is in the heart of town, so most resorts are just a jump away. This is the capital of carefree and casual: there are no paved roads, traffic lights, and no high-rise buildings. Although most resorts are beach-front, Ambergris is not a beach destination in the traditional sense. |

| ESSENCE OF THE AREA |
Ambergris is the largest of Belize's Cayes, very laid back and friendly. It is a delightful little island in the north of Belize, just inside the barrier reef. A great diving and snorkeling destination, clear waters with seductive breezes. Their motto is "no shirt, no shoes-no problem." Sandy streets, Caribbean architecture, small hotels. The best way to get here from Belize City is flying with Maya Island. We do not recommend getting to Ambergris by boat, they are not too reliable.
The island is divided into 3 parts: North Island, San Pedro and South of Town. North Island, this where you want to go if you want to get away from it all. Your mode of transportation from your hotel to town will be a water taxi, and some of them stop running a little after midnight, so if you interested in an active social life stay in town or to the south. San Pedro is the liveliest part of the island, right downtown is where all the restaurants, bars, shops are. You can walk or bike to almost everywhere, and wherever you stay, you will only be minutes away from the water. The southern part has some great properties with lovely beaches and accessible to downtown by golf cart. bike or a long walk.
